The area surrounding the Marshal Mini-Hotel is part of the historic center of St. Petersburg, but is a little distance from the tourist nexus at the western end of Nevsky Prospekt. An up market residential and commercial district, it nonetheless contains numerous beautiful 18th and 19th century buildings, and also has good links to the rest of the city.

The nearest metro station, Chernyshevskaya, is about 15 minutes walk away, and from there it is a five minute ride to the very center of the city. There are also numerous buses running along Kirochnaya Ulitsa, with destinations covering a large part of the city. St. Petersburg's mainline stations are all within 30 minutes' drive from the hotel, and Pulkovo-1 and Pulkovo-2 airports should take just under an hour to reach by car.

Local sightseeing

About 10 minutes' walk from the Marshal Mini-Hotel is the Smolny Convent, including the magnificent, blue-and-white Smolny Cathedral, built by Bartolomeo Rastrelli in the 18th century and one of the most beautiful buildings in St. Petersburg.

Just across the road from the Marshal are the Tauride Palace and Gardens. The palace dates from 1789, and was a gift from Catherine the Great to her lover Prince Potemkin. It was one of the first neo-classical buildings in the city. It later became the home of the State Duma in the tumultuous years leading up to the Revolution. Sadly, it is not open to the public, but the gardens are still worth investigating.

There are a number of interesting museums near the Marshal, including the hi-tech World of Water Museum (three minutes), and the Suvorov Museum, dedicated to the great Russian commander of the Napoleonic wars (10 minutes).
