Okhtinskaya-Victoria Hotel: Location & Directions

Address: 4, Bolsheohtinsky Prospekt, St. Petersburg, 195027
Nearest metro: Novocherkasskaya
The Okhtinskaya-Victoria Hotel is located a little distance from the center of St. Petersburg, on the somewhat deserted embankment of the Neva River directly opposite the Smolny Cathedral. Although they can enjoy spectacular views onto the historical center from the hotel, guests will be obliged to use public transport to get around. The hotel itself offers a regular shuttle minibus to/from the Okhtinskaya, and further buses can be found a block away from the hotel, all heading for Nevsky Prospekt and the tourist center of the city. The journey takes around twenty minutes.

There are no metro stations near the Okhtinskaya-Victoria, the nearest being Novocherkasskaya, which is about ten minutes' bus ride east of the hotel. St. Petersburg's mainline railway stations are all within 30 minutes from the hotel by car, and the two Pulkovo airports are reachable in just under an hour.
Local sightseeing
Smolny Cathedral and the Convent. The Italian architect Francesco Barthalameo Rastrelli built the picturesque Baroque-style Smolny Cathedral and the surrounding Convent between 1748 and 1764. They stand directly across the Neva River from the hotel, and can be seen from many room windows. The cathedral's charming blue-and-white dome and four bell-towers dominate the surrounding area. The interior of the cathedral was finally completed in 1835 by the Russian architect Vasily Stasov. Today the cathedral is used primarily as a concert and exhibition hall. For a nominal fee visitors can climb to the top of one of the Convent's towers and enjoy splendid panoramic views of the city.

The impressive Bolsheokhtinsky Bridge, which stands just up river from the Okhtinskaya Hotel, was designed by the Russian architect Apyshkov and built by the engineer Krivoshein in 1911. Boasting two granite towers, the recently restored bridge connects the historical Okhta region of the city with the city center.

The Exhibition Hall of the Union of Artists of Russia, an exhibition space which hosts work by contemporary Russian artists, is located about 10 minutes' walk from the Oktinskaya Hotel, and can be worth visiting, depending on the program at the time.
