The Staronevsky Dom stands on Perekupnoi Pereulok, a quiet side street just off Old Nevsky Prospekt. This is the section of St. Petersburg's famous central avenue that runs from the Moscow Station to the Alexander Nevsky Monastery and, although most of the major tourist attractions are at the western end of Nevsky Propspekt, a short bus or metro ride away, there are plenty of prestigious shops and restaurants around the hotel.
The nearest metro station is Ploschad Aleksandra Nevskogo, which is under ten minutes' walk from the Staronevsky Dom. Ploschad Vosstaniya metro and the mainline Moscow Station are in the opposite direction, and very slightly further away. The city's other mainline stations are all reachable within half-an-hour's drive, while the city's two airports are about 40 minutes away by car.
Local sightseeing
Ploschad Vosstaniya, just 10 minutes' walk from the hotel, is home to a monument to Leningrad the "hero city" - the highest Soviet state award given to cities for heroism and courage during the Second World War. In Leningrad's case, this was for surviving the almost 3-year siege by the Nazis.
The Alexander Nevskiy Monastery, located near the metro station of the same name, is named in honor of one of the city's patron saints, the defender of the Russian lands in the 13th century. Founded by Peter the Great in 1713, it contains an Orthodox seminary, the splendid Troitsky Cathedral and two memorial cemeteries where several famous people are buried, including Dostoevsky, Glinka, Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky.
The Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic is 10 minutes' walk from the hotel. This is the only museum of its type in Russia and one of the major museums of polar exploration in the world. It is home to 75,000 items dating from the 16th century to the present day.
